DATELINE MONDAY 11TH JULY 2016

Good morning to one and all I hope you had a terrific weekend. Happy Monday morning, so much going on despite the grim summer weather so far, Wimbledon Men’s Final, British Grand Prix, Euro Final to mention just three of them, oh and of course the London 10K Run, which I took part in on Sunday morning. A dull, over cast, grey morning with a few rain showers did not put off 13,000 runners turning up for a 10K run past many London landmarks, Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parliament, Elizabeth Tower to name a few. I did a 10K run two weeks ago on a grass route in 1 hour 8 minutes, the run on Sunday I did in 1 hour 1 minute, I was quite happy with my run time.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on winning the British Grand Prix, Andy Murray winning Men’s Singles at Wimbledon, Heather Watson and her partner won the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon, Gordon Reid winning the wheelchair singles title at Wimbledon Jordanne Whiley and her partner won the wheelchair female doubles title a good Wimbledon for the British. At last some good news.

The Euros drew to a close France v Portugal which team to support a difficult one especially as we represent TA DMC Portugal but I also have some great friends in the French DMC world, Menno Meyer of Phenix-Events in the South of France and Pascal Roulland of Nacara DMC in Paris. So I decided to watch from the fence.

Well done Portugal and well done France getting to the final could not have been easy.

What on earth is going on in Dallas Texas? I will tell you madness is what is going on.

What is going on at the seat of UK power? The current dog’s breakfast is now turning into a dog’s lunch. Power vacuum at the top of both main political parties, Brexit rumbles on, blah blah blah.

Iceland

Anna and the team at Nordic Visitor DMC Iceland are DELIGHTED to tell you that the New Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre hotel has opened. The 112-room property is centrally located in the Icelandic capital, close to the Harpa Concert Hall and Convention Center, as well as the city’s main shopping, eateries and pubs. There is an event space for up to 50 delegates.

Since Iceland did so well in the football we have seen a little spike in interest of clients and agencies asking about Iceland and Reykjavik as a conference and incentive destination.

Mauritius

Anusha Soopal of Connections DMC Mauritius is planning her return, she will be back in September and we are already putting her schedule together. If you would like to meet up with Anusha in September please let us know, she will have a full update on what’s new and funky in Mauritius.

Leyla and Hannah’s twitter and witter bit of the Monday morning e mail

So to continue the saga of Hannah and her argument i.e. being knocked down by a Peugeot 206 two Sundays ago resulting in a hospital visit and leaving A&E with a gift the gift is a full plaster case from her foot to her mid-thigh.

She is getting on with it now, the first 10 days were difficult and she was indulged big time. Daddy “can I have this” “please will you go upstairs to my bedroom and get me that” “Daddy can I have a glass of water”,” Daddy do you have a hair band” etc etc Her cast took some getting used to however she has not got the hang of her crutches and whilst she is not quite leaping up and down stairs, she can get about albeit slowly.

When Hannah was in the A&E is great pain immediately after the accident I was trying to think of ways to get her mind off the pain, so we went through the songs we sing at bed time. I started the Sound of Music song rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with string these are a few of my favourite things. Then we got onto the verse “when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I am feeling sad”. Hannah said “Daddy shall we skip those verses”

Leyla has broken up from school for the summer, in her pre break up from school planning she decided to negotiate the use/availability of her i phone after 9.30PM. Leyla gave me all kinds options, all I rejected. She wants her phone all night instead of me taking it at 9.30pm. If I let her have the phone all night she will watch U Tube all night till she falls asleep, then phone falls off her bed, thuds onto her bedroom floor my bedroom ceiling waking me up, not a chance. Then of course she does not wake up or get up till past midday. Think again first born.

Leyla has this annoying habit of barging into a room standing on show growling or roaring, yes darling eldest daughter we can see you have arrived into the room. thank you.

That’s it you are up to date I hope you have a great week in the rather “och and vey” forecasted weather, still cannot write my favourite headline yet “Cor what a scorcher”.
