Dateline 29th July 2024
Happy Monday I hope you are well and that you had an amazing summer sunshine weekend the weather at last seems to be doing what it needs to do in the British Summer time and that is being a little consistent for sure Saturday and Sunday were summer personified and it looks like the next few days will be similar yaaayyyyy.
There is so much going on in the news it’s hard to know where to start
The Olympics CONGRATULATIONS to Paris with everything that was thrown at the city in terms of weather Paris put on a great show for the Opening of The Olympics 2024. Very brave decision to hold the opening ceremony outside of the Olympic Stadium. I very much doubt Los Angeles will follow that trend the problem was that unless you had a screen with you i.e. a mobile phone, a laptop or tablet you only saw a small snapshot of the ceremony especially as all the umbrellas went up and blocked a lot of the view.
And as for the terrorists that tried to disrupt the Olympics by sabotaging the fast speed railway lines, you failed you miserable bunch of losers.
It’s soap box time
The situation in Manchester is totally deplorable, OK we do not know all the facts BUT it is reprehensible that members of the public assault Police Officers doing their job. Assaulting a Police Officer is a criminal Offence and regardless of what caused it these people need to be held to account as does the Police Officer who kicked the man once he was down and under control, it was wrong too but I guess that is where Police Officers are human beings and the old Red Mist of anger descended, he too needs to be controlled and dealt with by the law.
Today is the 297h day of the war in Gaza and the 2697th day that Israeli babies, toddles, children, teens, women, men and seniors have been held hostage in the Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza. Netanyahu has not had much success bringing the hostages home since the 100 hostages were set free earlier this year.
It seems to really be kicking off in the north of Israel in the Lebanese border, the IDF reports that the Majdal Shams massacre of children was carried out by Hizballah from an area near Chebaa in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile the usual suspects are predictably trying to pin the blame on Israel as Hizballah deny the attack, terrified of Druze retaliation and another 12 young people mainly children have lost their lives, parents and families are grieving, when will sense prevail on all side and indeed in all conflicts, war simply does not work, how difficult is that for the war mongers throughout the world to understand. This action will bring retaliation and sadly more death and destruction
Off the soap box now
Finally President Joe Biden has read the writing on the wall that has been there as they say “writ large” for a number of weeks, bless him. Yeah we all want to go on for ever but there comes a time to call it a day I guess power is very difficult to give up also being chaffered everywhere with no traffic to hold you up plus your own personal Boeing 747 jet at your disposal oh yes plus a mansion located at the best address in Washington DC to be honest I would hang on to it all as long as I could. It for sure has changed the dynamics now The Donald is the old guy
This is a great story in Russia a railway bridge originally valued at approximately $3.5 million was sold for scrap for $15,000. Law enforcement authorities in Russia are looking into the theft of a large metal railway bridge weighing approximately 60 tons, in Ryazan Region, situated roughly 200km southeast of the country’s capital city of Moscow.
The local railway company had apparently privatized the stolen bridge, providing all the required documentation to prove ownership. Nevertheless, a group of unidentified individuals claimed to have found documents indicating that the bridge was “ownerless”, leading them to dismantle it when negotiations with the rightful owner fell through.
Yesterday, the local police department issued a statement confirming that they had received a report regarding the disappearance of a non-operational railway bridge metal structure over a week ago.
The crime scene was captured in photos shared by a Telegram channel, depicting just two massive concrete pylons, all that was left from the bridge, standing tall above a shallow river.
The latest heist was not the first crime of its kind in Russia. Metal objects have been a target for theft due to their scrap value, posing a longstanding issue in Russia.
Back on 2019, suspected metal thieves made off with a railway bridge 23m long and weighing 56 tons in Russia’s Arctic region of Murmansk. And in 2017, a 10-meter-long Soviet-era anti-aircraft rocket detonated at a recycling facility, following its sale for scrap metal.
So much sport going on as well as The Olympics, the Belgium Grand Prix and of course The Cricket
That dear reader that is about it from a David point of view for this week at least.
MM and Company news update
Abu Dhabi
Jyoti Christina Candy and the team at Travco DMC Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman have told us that Warner Bros. World Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the biggest indoor theme park in the region has hooked up with Etihad Airways. This partnership was introduced to the public on July 25 seemly the partnership will introduce the first-ever Warner Bros. World branded aircraft. an Etihad Airways Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner has been decorated with famous Warner Bros. characters. One side of the aircraft features the playful antics of iconic Classic Animation characters such as the Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, while the other side highlights the heroic adventures of beloved DC Superheroes. I just wonder what the pilots will be wearing Bugs Bunny costumes and maybe Sylvest the cat. Interesting 😊
