DATELINE MONDAY 6TH JANUARY 2020

Happy New Year, happy new decade, happy new week, welcome to my first Monday morning e mail partly written whilst on my way back from a Christmas and a New Year site inspection and break in the South African sunshine.

I hope you are well and that you had an amazing Christmas and New Year. Normally I spend the end of year holidays in London the city is amazing at Christmas plus sooo many people are away it’s easy to get around, however early on in January 2019 I realised I had not been to South Africa for five years and as we at MM and Company are proudly celebrating our 21st year of representing Shaun Blake, Brad Glenn and the team at The Inside Edge DMC Southern Africa I decided that Christmas 2019 was a perfect time to reacquaint myself with the awesome destination that is South Africa. Shaun, Brad and The Inside Edge team put a program together that included safari and time in The Mother City of Cape Town.

Nothing was missed, whilst seeing the Big Five on a game drive is never guaranteed I saw Elephant, Rhino and Lion up real close, Buffalo in the distance and got a fleeting glace and photo of a Leopard as it crossed in from of our game drive vehicle. Also saw big herds of wildebeest, zebra, impala, kudu and a group of giraffe. Safari in South Africa sorted I stayed at Ivory Tree Game Lodge on the edge of Pilanesberg National Park. After four days in the National Park I then flew off to Cape Town. Cape Town was always amazing and it still is even more so now. I stayed at The Radisson Blu Hotel at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the hotel was full and had great staff, such friendly service orientated people.

The Inside Edge team sorted out an amazing week there; Robben Island, Table Mountain, a city tour as well as a morning of sightseeing to Signal Hill and Camps Bay on the back of a Harley Davidson, the weather throughout my stay was amazing dry, sunny, warm and even hot it only rained once for an hour on a game drive.

South Africa so many new things, events space and hotels so much has stayed the same only better. The Silo Hotel new and very funky utilising an old industrial Silo, the coolest place to go at the moment. A new Radisson Red Hotel again at The Waterfront there are some great Waterfront based Industrial space for events and old Warf buildings that have been converted to hotels and event space. Then there are the regular favourites, The Table Bay Hotel, Cape Grace, One and Only, Taj and of course The Mount Nelson

My trip just reinforced again to me what good value Cape Town indeed Southern Africa is on the ground, I experienced some amazing restaurants, outstanding food service and of course South African wine.
