Business Development Event to Budapest
Courtesy of Danubius Hotels, Malev Airlines and Microcosmos DMC, 10 of us ventured out from London Gatwick to Budapest very early in April 2009. Very few had been to Budapest before and all had mixed expectations.
For those who don’t know, Budapest has had a long and interesting history; most recently under Soviet Rule, originally Budapest was a Celtic settlement.
The city was in its prime in the 18th and 19th centuries after it became a global city in the 1873 unification and become the second capital of Austria-Hungary, a great power that dissolved in 1918.
It is during this time when many of residential homes, grand boulevards and museums where built that today lend themselves to some of the finest venues for conference and incentive groups.
Budapest is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, its World Heritage Sites include the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, and the Millennium Underground Railway, the first on the European continent. In addition, the largest thermal water cave system in the world was discovered under Budapest in 2008.
During the trip, we were blessed with warmth and sunshine, which was a surprise since they had only just had a snowy spell the week before in London. What a difference a bit of sunshine makes. After a non-eventful flight we arrived in to Budapest some 2 ½ hours after leaving Gatwick. Microcosmos had put together a great itinerary. They are after all experts in their field – they’ve been in operation for 25 years and represented by MM and Company for 10. Our home for 2 nights was the 5-star Hilton Budapest Hotel, (owned by Danubius Hotels) in the fabulous Castle District on the Pest side of the city.
We spent 2 days exploring caves, soaking in the thermal baths of Margaret Island, cycling around Hero’s Square and the City Park, finding out how nostalgic trains can be incorporated in to events and looking at the fabulous arrays of venues, restaurants and event boats. Of course, we were spoilt rotten with sumptuous foods, wines and Champagnes at every given opportunity – on the last day, we were given the chance to cook our very own Hungarian recipes by way of a cooking challenge (Pancakes Hungarian Style, Chicken Soup with tarragon and vegetables, Chicken paprika with noodles (dumplings)). Fantastic fun!
Budapest is the perfect option for small and large events for up to 800 people. For more information on Microcosmos and the fabulous opportunities available to you in Budapest please contact
